Chevrolet
www.chevrolet.com
In the Summer of 2007, Chevrolet launched its major informational campaign
"Chevy Fuel Solutions" to educate the public about the full range of technologies that Chevy is developing to improve fuel economy, reduce dependence on oil, and reduce environmental emissions.
Chevrolet believes hydrogen is the most effective long-term response to address the global climate issue in the motor vehicle industry. Fuel cell vehicles fueled by hydrogen are more than twice as energy efficient as internal combustion engines and produce zero emissions—only heat and water leave the tailpipe. With hydrogen produced from renewable sources of energy, fuel-cell vehicles are truly zero-emissions vehicles.
Chevrolet also believes that renewable biofuels, especially ethanol made from cellulose, will have a role in the mid- to long-term future in many regions, except Europe. Vehicles operating on biofuels have the potential to greatly reduce (though not entirely eliminate) greenhouse gas and other emissions. Furthermore, the vehicle technology is largely developed, and Chevrolet has produced and sold almost two million flexible fuel vehicles in North America that can operate on blends of gasoline and ethanol up to 85 percent ethanol (E85). In Brazil, GM produces vehicles that can operate on 100 percent ethanol.
Chevrolet envisions a period of transition from the internal combustion engine to the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and biofuels characterized by continuous improvements in conventional vehicle technologies (Gasoline Direct Injection, Active Fuel Management engines, variable valve timing, six speed transmissions, lightweight materials for mass reduction, and aerodynamics improvements), modern diesel technology, and the introduction of a variety of hybrid vehicles for consumer and commercial markets.

Volkswagen
www.vw.com
Volkswagen is working on many fronts to make its vehicles, and the fuels they run on,
more environmentally responsible. This inlcudes the VW's top ranked fuel-efficient
TDI diesel vehicles such as the New Beetle, Jetta and Rabbit.
These vehicles offer up to a 35 percent increase in fuel efficiency, a fact recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Diesel versions of the New Beetle and Golf are the highest fuel economy models in their respective vehicle classes, according to the EPA and DOE's 2006 Fuel Economy Guide. Additionally, the Volkswagen New Beetle, Golf and Jetta hold four of the top ten positions for best fuel economy, according to the EPA. Volkswagen diesels have also been approved for use of B5 biodiesel fuel.
[Ref]
Volkswagen is facing up to the challenges of sustainable mobility.
- Sustainability:
Economic, ecological and social compatibility are the driving forces
behind our fuel and powertrain strategy.
- Diversification of feedstocks:
The aim is to safeguard future supplies by using several different
raw materials for fuel production.
- Use of existing infrastructure:
The market launch of new fuels only has a realistic chance of success if they
can make use of the existing supply infrastructure.
For clean fuels, Volkswagen is banking on synthetic fuel.
In practical terms that means choose fuels which help reduce local emissions of
nitrous oxides and soot particles, and lower greenhouse gases such as CO2.
The Volkswagen Fuel Strategy provides one answer to these challenges.
The strategy represents a roadmap to sustainable mobility; a roadmap which already applies
and can be taken forward step by step.
Bringing a variety of alternative fuels such as methanol, ethanol, natural gas
and hydrogen to market is not an economically viable option. That would call for too many
different new production technologies, distribution infrastructures
and engine designs. For biodiesel and bio-alcohols such as ethanol, blending with
conventional fuels in line with existing fuel standards offers a more productive approach.

Honda introduced the first Civic CVCC in 1974.
Today's 2006 Civic Hybrid gets 50 MPG (EPA).
American Honda
www.honda.com
Honda has the most fuel-efficient car fleet of all 10 major
vehicle manufacturers and was the first automaker in America
to introduce low-emission vehicles, hybrid vehicles and a
fuel cell car. Our environmental leadership is the result
of our independent investment in original technology. We will
continue this commitment to create cutting-edge technologies
that balance environmental responsibilities with our customers'
needs for performance and safety.
- The Union of Concerned Scientists named Honda as the 2004 Greenest Automaker
- The Accord Hybrid is the world's first V-6 powered hybrid and features Honda's Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology to deliver V-6 performance with 4-cylinder fuel efficiency.
- Honda's latest FCX fuel cell vehicle includes a new fuel cell stack developed by Honda that is capable of starting at temperatures as low as minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The fuel cell stack is less expensive to produce because it is made of stamped metal plates and has 50 percent fewer parts than earlier versions. Fleets of FCXs are on the road today in California, New York and Nevada.
- For Model Year 2005, more than 75 percent of Honda and Acura vehicles meet or exceed tough new Tier 2 emission standards, requiring a 75 percent reduction in NOx emissions-a year ahead of EPA requirements.
- Named the cleanest internal-combustion vehicle on earth by the EPA, the Civic GX runs entirely on natural gas. Unlike other flex- or duel-fuel vehicles, which operate primarily on gasoline, the Honda Civic GX is run on alternative fuel and is virtually pollution-free.

Clean Energy
www.cleanenergyfuels.com
Clean Energy (Nasdaq: CLNE), North America's leader in clean transportation, has a broad client base in the refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets, with more than 14,000 vehicles fueling at strategic locations across the United States and Canada. We provide clean-burning CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) to a host of companies and municipalities. Clean Energy also designs, builds, operates and maintains fueling stations, offering the latest in convenience, technology and safety.
Clean Energy provides turnkey solutions to help fleets access the benefits of natural gas. Natural gas vehicles (NGVs) perform the same as their conventional gasoline or diesel-powered counterparts, but they run on clean-burning, efficient natural gas. NGVs are virtually free of severe toxic and carcinogenic emissions. Switching fleets over to this eco-friendly fuel reduces tailpipe emissions by up to 95%, compared to petroleum-based products. Replacing just one diesel-powered refuse truck with a comparable model run on natural gas is the equivalent of taking 325 automobiles off the road.

Dennis K. Burke
www.burkeoil.com
For over 40 years, Dennis K. Burke, Inc. has been reliably delivering premium diesel fuel, motor oil and gasoline to fleets and industry throughout the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island area.
While Detroit offers several variations of new Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) that average over 50 miles to the gallon, independent fuel marketers are introducing "Biodiesel," a healthier, renewable energy solution that seems to be meeting just about everyone's approval. The Burke Gas Station on Beacham Street in Chelsea is the first station in the state of Massachusetts to offer biodiesel products Ð Biodiesel B20 at the pump and Biodiesel B100 in drums and pails.
Biodiesel is a clean, diesel fuel substitute made from soybeans, canola, and recycled cooking oil from restaurants. It can be burned safely in any standard, unmodified diesel engine, either in pure form (B100) or in a 20% blend (B20) with 80% petroleum diesel. Most truck manufacturers recommend using B20 in their engines. Pure biodiesel is completely biodegradable, and poses minimal concerns to soil and water contamination. Biodiesel is also non-toxic to plants, animals and humans. On the performance side, biodiesel's higher cetane rating results in excellent engine performance and fuel economy. Biodiesel has outstanding lubricity characteristics. Blend ratios as low as 1% can provide up to 30% more lubricity over conventional diesel fuel. And a higher flash point means it's safer to handle.
As one of New England's largest suppliers of diesel fuel, gasoline and motor oil products, Dennis K. Burke is proud to be first in bringing biodiesel to Massachusetts.

Zipcar
www.zipcar.com
Zipcar's Environmental and Community Impact. Zipcar's service has had a significant, positive impact on the environment and local communities. According to a recent member survey, drivers who use Zipcar as an alternative to owning a car ultimately spend less time behind the wheel and, in many cases, have surrendered ownership of their vehicles or have halted their purchasing decision.
Each Zipcar takes over 20 personally-owned vehicles off the road. Over 48,000 Zipcar members share nearly 800 vehicles in the Boston, New York, Washington DC, and San Francisco metropolitan areas. Recent surveys indicate that over 40% of members would have kept their vehicle, or would have purchased a primary or secondary vehicle, if Zipcar did not exist. To date, Zipcar estimates it has taken nearly 20,000 vehicles off the road.
This results in less congestion on the roadways and fewer greenhouse gas emissions and particulates. Older cars are replaced with new Zipcars that have more stringent pollution controls, while green space is preserved as fewer parking spaces are required to meet the needs of the same number of people.
Zipcar members are more likely to shop locally. On average, members state they save $436/month or $5,232/year using Zipcar - money that will likely be spent locally.
Zipcar members drove 5295 miles/year prior to joining Zipcar. The average Zipcar member currently drives only 369 miles/year. Having to walk a block or pay for a vehicle by the hour or day changes driving and personal behavior patterns. It also results in decreased fuel consumption and urban emissions. Each Zipcar member now consumes 219 less gallons of gasoline per year. Overall, it is estimated that Zipcar saved over 3 million gallons of gas, or 6.5 million gallons of crude oil from being consumed in 2004.
Members of Zipcar and car sharing programs report a 14% increase in public transit trips, a 10% increase in bicycling trips and a 26% increase in walking trips. Zipcar is part of the urban transportation mix. With Zipcar, members are more likely to take advantage of all methods of transportation. Zipcar members use cars only when they need to, and often walk or bike more, resulting in healthier residents.

With Congress's passing of the Propane Education and Research Act (PERA) in 1996, the industry began to conduct a referendum among propane producers and marketers, who overwhelmingly approved the formation of the Council.
The Council receives funding by an assessment or "check-off" on each gallon of odorized propane gas. The assessment will collect five-tenths of one cent per gallon in 2006. The assessment is projected to collect $50.4 million dollars in 2006 to fund programs and projects. Through the Council, the propane industry has committed itself to a multi-year, multi-million dollar effort to improve consumer and employee safety, to fund research and development of new and more efficient propane equipment, and to expand public awareness of propane and its many uses and environmental advantages.

In March of 2006 REI, a national retail cooperative providing quality outdoor gear and apparel, announced that it will purchase 10 million kilowatt hours of green power, or 20 percent of the company's national electricity usage. The purchase of wind, landfill gas and solar generated electricity will provide 100 percent of the power for 17 of REI's 82 retail stores, and is equivalent to the annual use of more than 1,000 average homes. The switch to renewable resources eliminates over 5,500 tons of CO2, equivalent to removing more than 1,000 average cars from the road.
REI has joined the Green Power Partnership, a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and organizations interested in buying green power. REI also has announced that it will be a founding member of the Seattle Climate Partnership, a group of Seattle employers working together on climate issues.
REI selected qualifying, Green-e certified, renewable energy contracts. In addition to reducing green house gas emission, in most cases these contracts also reduce the company's exposure to fossil fuel surcharges.
As an active supporter of communities in which it does business, REI is committed to promoting environmental stewardship and increasing access to outdoor recreation through education, gear donations and financial contributions.
